The Mermaid Parade is one of New York City's greatest summer events and takes place at one of the more memorable recreational attractions ... Coney Island. Established in 1983, the parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras and combines many different activities to create an eclectic event. Celebrating the sea, sand, summer, and salt air, participants dress as mermaids and other sea creatures. A Queen Mermaid rules over the proceedings. This event takes place on the third Saturday in June each year.
