TV dinners were created as convenient and quick options for busy families. The term "TV dinner" actually was created by CA Swanson & Sons, a food delivery business, and referred to all frozen meals consisting of meat, vegetables and sometimes desserts. In fact, Swanson was the first company to mass-market TV dinners — the inaugural offering a meal of turkey, cornbread, dressing, sweet potatoes, and peas in 1954. The first TV dinner tray was inducted into the Smithsonian Institute into the Museum of American History in 1986.
