National Simplicity Day is celebrated each year on July 12, which also corresponds to Henry David Thoreau's birthday. Thoreau was an advocate for simple living and enjoying one's natural surroundings. On this day people can cast off some of the complexities of life and get back to nature. It's a great time to head outdoors, sleep in a hammock, take a hike, read a book in a shady spot, and turn off electronics and life's distractions.
