National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands. NPLD began in 1994 with three sites and 700 volunteers. It proved to be a huge success and NPLD became a yearly tradition, typically held on the last Saturday in September.  Volunteers collect invasive plants, build and maintain miles of trails, plant trees, shrubs and other native plants, remove tons of trash, and contribute an estimated of $17 million through volunteer services to improve public lands cross the country.

For NPLD 2021, the theme will be "More Ways to Connect to Nature."
