National Parkinson's Awareness Month is a campaign that aims to promote awareness of Parkinson's Disease and raise funds for research activities. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominately dopamine-producing (“dopaminergic”) neurons in a specific area of the brain called substantia nigra. It causes tremors, limb rigidity and other symptoms.
