While there is only one global ocean, the vast body of water that covers 71 percent of the Earth is geographically divided into distinct named regions. The boundaries between these regions have evolved over time for a variety of historical, cultural, geographical, and scientific reasons. June marks a time when the public can learn more about the mystery of the ocean, including how to protect it.
Even though the oceans are very resilient, they still require protection and conservation to protect the marine habitats millions of creatures and plants call home.
