Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning Queer (LGBTQQ) History Month

October

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) History Month, (now expanded to LGBTQQ) has served not only as a time to study and celebrate gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered history, but also to focus the public's attention on GLBT issues, such as discrimination, marriage rights, AIDS, domestic partner benefits, and more. October was selected to commemorate because the first two lesbian and gay marches on Washington took place in October 1979 and 1987.  This event also helps to provide mainstream America with a more positive view of all people regardless of their sexual preferences.
