International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem

Mangroves grow at the border between land and sea. They are important refuge areas for a wide variety of wildlife and help protect coastal communities against storm surges and rising sea levels. To help protect mangroves International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem was established by UNESCO in 2015. The day seeks to raise awareness about the vulnerability of these ecosystems.
