The Constitution of the United States established America's national government and fundamental laws, and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. Delegations from 12 states (Rhode Island did not send a delegate) at the Constitutional Convention at Philadelphia, PA, voted unanimously to approve the proposed document. Thirty-nine of the 42 delegates present signed it on September 17, 1787, and the Convention adjourned, after drafting a letter of transmittal to the Congress. The proposed constitution stipulated that it would take effect when ratified by nine states. The anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Constitution is a legal holiday in Florida.

On the anniversary of the Constitution and Constitution Week, schools and businesses can shed light on the importance of this document. Search "constitution" in the Creative Library of for applicable images for promotions, posters and ads.
