World Lupus Day is an international call to action that has been issued by more than 100 lupus organizations based in countries around the world. The goal is to call attention to the confusing characteristics of this potentially fatal autoimmune disease that mimics other, less serious illnesses. In addition, by observing World Lupus Day offers lupus patients the comfort of knowing their condition is recognized and being addressed on a global level.
Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). Chronic means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and often for many years.
