Canada: New Inuit Territory Approved: Anniversary, 1992

Canada's Inuit people voted to accept a federal landclaim package granting them control over a new territory, Nunavut was to be carved out of the existing Northwest Territories by 1999. The voting indicated that 69 percent of the 9,648 voters accepted the settlement.
