The familiar slogan “All the News That’s Fit to Print” has appeared on page one of the New York Times since Feb 10, 1897. It had first appeared on the editorial page on Oct 25, 1896. In that year a $100 prize was offered for the suggestion of the newspaper's new slogan. Despite many great entries, paper owner Adolph S. Ochs concluded that his own slogan was best.

Newspaper publishers can enlist the help of their surrounding communities in developing new slogans for their publications. Increased interest in their papers may help increase circulation numbers.
