National Avocado Day

July 31st, 2023

Company: California Avocados
Web site: http://www.californiaavocado.com

July is peak avocado season, especially in California where many avocados are grown and harvested. This tasty fruit is the key ingredient in guacamole, can be enjoyed sliced on sandwiches, and can dress up meals whether fish, poultry or meat is the main course. Avocados are the fruit with the most protein content and are full of fiber. They're also gluten free, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian, and cholesterol-free. Avocados can help lower cholesterol and also are high in potassium and antioxidants. On National Avocado Day it is time to include more avocados into a person's diet to boost health and flavor.

Did you know the avocado was originally dubbed the "alligator pear," by Irishman Sir Hans Sloane in 1696? Since then this fruit has gone on to be a versatile addition to various recipes. Promote by searching up avocados and summer dining options in Metro's Recipes, available in the Editorial Library each and every month.
