World Oceans Day, held every June 8th, is the UN-recognized day of ocean celebration and action. People all over the planet organize celebrations – which can be huge events in the community, special announcements, or anything in between – to support action to protect the oceans.
The official designation of World Oceans Day is an opportunity to raise global awareness of the challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans.

On World Oceans Day many people ban together to clean up the coastline. Cities and towns nearby bodies of water can organize their own coastal clean-up event. Rely on Metro's Creative Image Library for photos of oceans and beaches to help set the scene.
