World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to raise environmental awareness and to encourage action to protect the environment.
From royal families to farmers, politicians to schoolchildren, tens of thousands of people all over the world mark World Environment Day (WED) with events from Bhutan to Honduras to take action against the environmental challenges facing the world today.
