Pink Shirt Day

February 22nd, 2023

Company: CKNW Children's Charities
Web site: http://www.pinkshirtday.ca

Pink Shirt Day was established to raise awareness of bullying and to be a platform for showing support against the practice. It has humble beginnings in 2007 in Nova Scotia, Canada. A student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, but several students decided to take a stand and wore pink shirts in solidarity. Inspired by this act of kindness CKNW Kids' Fund, working with partners Boys & Girls Clubs and CKNW 980, was inspired to raise funds to support anti-bullying programs. And the efforts continue to this day.

While the Canadian event is celebrated in February, Pink Shirt Day is celebrated on various dates around the world. Many countries recognize May 4th as the official event, following a United Nations declaration in 2012. People worldwide don pink, purple and blue shirts to draw attention to the entirely preventable problem of bullying.
