The heart is one of the hardest-working muscles in the body, responsible for pumping blood throughout the vessels and oxygenating all cells. However, despite its seeming invincibility, the heart is susceptible to illness if not properly cared for. That is why American Heart Month is such an important event, bringing awareness to heart disease and stroke — but also to the healthy living efforts that can help prevent these conditions. The public is encouraged to think heart-healthy throughout the month of February, making smart choices about diet, exercise and preventative medical visits.
