Fruitcake is either loved or reviled, but that doesn't stop well-meaning individuals for gifting it during the holiday season. Too often fruitcake, which is essentially a bundt or pound cake dotted with dried fruit, never gets eaten. That's where National Fruitcake Toss Day comes into play. People can opt to grab a slice and then throw out the rest, or simply toss the cake in the trash altogether. However, a more humane and socially responsible way to get rid of that unwanted fruitcake is to donate it to a food pantry.
Occurs the first Saturday in January.

Communities and businesses can organize a fruitcake-tossing contest as a fundraiser or charitable event. Faux fruitcakes can be used, and individuals pay a fee to enter. All proceeds then go on to fund the organization of choice.
