Since 1981 the US Postal Service has designated the month of October as National Stamp Collecting Month (NSCM). Developed to introduce children age 8–12 to this popular and educational hobby. The NSCM program is also intended to raise awareness about the recreational benefits of stamp collecting among all age groups. The Postal Service traditionally kicks off NSCM by issuing new commemorative stamps in late September or early October.

A stamp collector or philatelist collects postage stamps as a hobby. Stamp collectors normally keep the stamps in books called stamp albums. Stationary stores and antique shops can be businesses to approach for advertising for National Stamp Collecting Month.
