April 11 marks the International Day of Pink. On this day, people across the country, and across the world, can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop homophobia, transphobia, transmisogyny, and all forms of bullying.
The concept was begun in Nova Scotia when two straight high school students saw a gay student being bullied. That student was wearing a pink shirt. The students intervened, but subsequently wanted to do more to prevent homophobic & transphobic bullying. By purchasing pink shirts — and inviting scores of others to don the shirts as well — the entire school was able to take a stand to unify and show support.
Day of Pink Ambassadors can be students, families, politicians, and community leaders from all over Canada who are willing to stand up and speak out on behalf of the diversity of others.
