On April 30, 2017, Washington, D.C. joins with other towns, cities and villages in over 190 countries on all 7 continents to observe International Jazz Day through thousands of performances and programs.
Jazz is described as a type of music characterized by improvisation, syncopation, and usually a regular or forceful rhythm, which emerged at the beginning of the 20th century. Brass and woodwind instruments and piano are particularly associated with jazz. Many people are introduced to jazz early on through school bands and other performance outlets.
