National Vanilla Milkshake Day is happily enjoyed by many people on June 20th of each year. Vanilla ice cream remains the most popular flavor of this popular dessert. Turning it into a milkshake is a refreshing treat on any hot day. Early milkshakes were made using milk, malt and a flavoring. The malt added a creamier texture to the beverage. The reason behind the drink being given the name "shakes" is from being served in bars (earliest milkshakes had a little whisky in them). If the customer enjoyed the specialty drink, he shook hands with the bartender. If not, the bartender wouldn’t get a tip.
