Visitors to California have plenty to see, not the least of which is the famed Hollywood sign at the top of Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills. The sign purportedly was erected as an advertisement for a housing development known as Hollywoodland, by Los Angeles Times publisher Harry Chandler. Eventually the sign became a beacon of the lifestyle of the area. The "land" was later removed when the sign was restored in 1949.
