Benjamin Franklin wore many hats, and one of them was scientist. Franklin was fascinated with electricity, and launched a kite in a thunderstorm on June 10, 1752 to try to capture a charge in a Leyden jar. He would go on to become the inventor of the lightning rod, and would coin many different words, such as battery, electrician and conductor.
