Love it or hate it, fruitcake is an integral part of the holiday season. However, in the 18th and 19th century, fruitcakes were made for special occasion likes weddings, but it’s unknown why they became associated with Christmas, according to Smithsonian. The cake is usually a pound or bundt cake with dried fruit baked right into the batter. Some people like to gift fruit cakes, but oftentimes fruit cakes largely go uneaten because the cake can be so dense and heavy.
