Once automobiles became more affordable after World War II people could travel more readily and fast food became a luxury for those on the road. Soon, fast food also became an inexpensive way to feed families and a treat that could be enjoyed when time was short. Fast food encompasses may quick-order and take-out options today, from pizza to burgers to fried chicken. Billions of dollars are spent each year on fast food items. And although it may not be considered health food, when enjoyed in moderation it can be a part of a well-rounded diet.
