Graham crackers were developed by a minister named Sylvester Graham, and they were comprised of whole wheat graham flour, bran and wheat germs. Originally billed as a health food, they were a popular cracker of the early 19th century. While graham crackers today are still enjoyed plain, they're often one of the ingredients of popular dessert treats. Used as crust for pies and cakes, graham crackers can make the ideal bottom when mixed with butter and sugar. Of course, graham crackers are perhaps best loved topped with toasted marshmallows and melted chocolate to form s'mores.
