Drug abuse does not only extend to illegal drugs obtained on the street. It can stem from using prescription medications improperly, or by others abusing prescriptions not intended for them. In an effort to keep the country safer and prevent prescription drug misuse, the DEA advertises Prescription Drug Take Back Day. It urges individuals to clean old drugs out of their medicine cabinets and dispose of them safely. This is one step toward keeping medications out of the wrong hands.
Pharmacies, supermarkets, chain retailers, doctors, and local counseling centers can help spread the word about Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
