Michael Jackson's sixth studio album is one of the most popular and important albums of all time, charting seven songs in the Top Ten: "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", "The Girl Is Mine", "Thriller", "Beat It", "Billie Jean", "Human Nature", and "P.Y.T." It broke the pop charts wide open for black artists, who'd often be relegated to R&B charts, and simultaneously gave musical forms like R&B and funk a wider audience while experimenting with bold genre crossovers in its songwriting and production. Thriller stayed on the charts for three years and has sold more than 110 million copies. On May 14, 2008, the album was added to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.
