Seven people set sail aboard the Minnow for what they thought would be a 3-hour pleasure tour. Unfortunately a storm stranded the ship on a deserted island and the passengers were forced to use the island resources for their survival. The show, even though it aired only 3 years, gained a cult following, making Gilligan, the Skipper, the Professor, Ginger, Mary Ann, Mr. Howell, and Mrs. "Lovey" Howell, household names.
On the same day in 1968 "Hawaii Five-O" premiered, followed by "The Brady Bunch" in 1969. Each of these shows became popular in their own right.
