More than 150 world leaders converged at the United Nations between September 6-8, 2000. It was the largest gathering of such leaders in history. The leaders adopted a declaration that committed them to promote democracy, strengthen respect for human rights, reverse the spread of AIDS, cut poverty, protect the planet, and improve the ability to keep the peace.
