National Women's Heart Week (February 1-7) is a nationally recognized program of the Women's Heart Foundation to raise awareness about the number one killer of American women: heart disease. Most women are not aware that heart disease is so prolific, and fail to recognize their own risk factors for heart disease. Women’s symptoms, especially those that are milder, often go ignored.
The core of the program is to mesh fun, free activities with education and heart health screenings. When local organizations, such as doctors' offices, health clinics, and fitness centers get involved, they can reach communities directly and have the biggest impact. Some of the most important aspects of promoting Women's Heart Week is educating women about heart-healthy eating, gender-specific information on heart health risks, advertising free medical screenings, and bringing about awareness of symptoms/early intervention.
