October is Liver Cancer Awareness month, where light is shed on the importance of the liver for filtering out harmful contaminants from the body. When the liver is compromised by cancer, it cannot do its job properly and the body can suffer quite quickly. The National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program estimates that 40,710 new cases of liver and intrahepatic bile duct cancer will be diagnosed in the United States. More research, treatment options and awareness about this prolific disease is needed.
Although the topic of cancer is seldom one people want to bring up, awareness efforts can help shed light on common and rare forms of the disease, pave the way for research and intervention, and galvanize support efforts in communities. A cancer information section produced with the help of the Editorial Library can be a springboard for community effort and simultaneously drive ad sales for respective doctors, health clinics, pharmacies, and other health-related businesses.
