Formerly known as National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week, this observance expanded to a full month in 2003. The purpose is to encourage people to consider organ and tissue donation, and to sign donor cards when getting a driver's license. NDLM features an entire month of local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to celebrate those that have saved lives through the gift of donation.
