Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month

March

Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month serves to educate parents, grandparents, schoolchildren and more about accidental pet poisoning and how to prevent it. Many people are unaware that common foods and chemicals found in the home can be highly dangerous to companion animals. These include chocolate, insecticides, mouse/rat baits, xylitol, which is an artificial sweetener, and even human pain medications. Educating oneself about pet poisons can help keep pets safer. In addition to the month-long observance, the third week in March each year is designated as Pet Poison Prevention Week.

March plays home to both Poison Prevention Awareness Month and National Poison Prevention Week. Utilize Metro's resources to educate about the potential poisons that impact adults, children and even pets.
