United States Income Tax: Anniversary, 1913

March 8th, 2020

Income tax is a fee that many people must pay on the money they earn from their salaries. The origins ncome tax on individuals may be traced back to the 16th Amendment, passed by Congress on July 2, 1909, and ratified February 3, 1913. But others say its history actually goes back even further. Purportedly during the Civil War Congress passed the Revenue Act of 1861, which included a tax on personal incomes to help pay war expenses.
