A partial solar eclipse will sweep across the southeast Pacific and southern South America on April 30, 2022 at 8:41 UTC.
Prevent Blindness America suggests that when the public enjoys the eclipse, to take the following safety precautions.
• Pinhole projection: This do-it-yourself project includes making a pinhole in cardboard paper with the sun on one side and a piece of paper to project the image on the other side. This is a safe, and inexpensive way to view the eclipse.
• Welder's glass: Number 14 welder's glass can provide effective protection during viewing as long as there are no scratches in the glass.
• Mylar filters: Aluminized mylar plastic sheets are available as eclipse vision glasses.
• Eclipse glasses: Special viewing glasses can be purchased from various sources.
Individuals should never look directly at the eclipse, through a smartphone or through a camera viewfinder. Safety should be a priority when experiencing this rare phenomenon.
