Good Friday is a Christian religious holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. Although it marks the crucifixion of Christ, the faithful may view it as a joyous day in which Jesus offered his life for people's sins — the ultimate sacrifice of love.
