July 26th, 2021
National Disability Independence Day highlights the Americans with Disabilities Act, a law passed on July 26, 1990, that guarantees certain rights — and increased independence — to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities. A number of initiatives took place afterwards, including widening of doorways for wheelchair accessibility, installation of ramps, usage of braille on signage and ATM machines, and many other ADA-compliant modifications.
