The world celebrates National Tartar Sauce Day beginning the Friday after the Christian Lenten season begins. This is because many people practice fasting from meat and poultry and increase their consumption of fish. Tartar sauce often complements baked and fried fish dinners, but it can season many different food items. Tartar sauce can easily be made at home by mixing equal parts of mayonnaise with sweet pickle relish.
