CREATE: The Villages Daily Sun ran their Spring Home special section as a 40-page insert in February 2021, utilizing Metro’s Templated Special Section and expanding upon the layout with additional advertising pages. With an 85 percent market penetration in The Villages, a 55-plus community, the publication saw that many of the 120,000 residents were directing expendable income toward home improvement projects as the pandemic curtailed spending on travel and entertainment expenses. Sales manager Misty Sharp says that recognizing this was a key factor in choosing to do the Spring Home section.
SELL: With local home improvement businesses thriving, Sharp says many of them were eager to advertise in a special section geared toward their services. The sales team simply contacted as many current and potential advertisers as they could, focusing on the benefits and expected high readership of the section.
PROFIT: Sharp reports the section was well received by The Village readers. She notes it was also quite profitable, helping the publication make up some of the revenue losses brought on by the pandemic.
