National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month generates widespread awareness about colorectal cancer and to encourage people to learn more about how to prevent the disease through a healthy lifestyle and regular screening. Colorectal cancer encompasses any cancer that originates in the colon (lower part of the large intestines) or the rectum. Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in both men and women, according to the American Cancer Society.
