National Poverty in America Awareness month is designed promote public awareness of the continuing existence of poverty and social injustice in America. Individuals are encouraged to support efforts to eradicate poverty and by active participation and support for antipoverty programs. The event is sponsored by the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. 

New Year's resolutions may include volunteering time or giving more money to charitable efforts. Supporting community-wide antipoverty programs is one way that local citizens can get involved.
