Millions of pets are awaiting a forever home in shelters and rescues both domestically and internationally. Because pets themselves cannot advocate for themselves, they need the assistance of others to be their voices. Such is the basis behind National Pet Day. Founded by Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert & Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige, on April 11 each year the public is encouraged to explore the love and joy that companion animals can provide. It also serves to bring awareness to the plight of homeless pets needing compassion.
People can celebrate the wide array of pets and National Pet Day by sharing #nationalpetday on social media. They can also plan enjoyable days with their current pets or make a plan to rescue an animal from a nearby shelter.
