National Dolphin Day

April 14th, 2021

Each year on April 14th, people celebrate the majesty and grace of one of the ocean's most treasured creatures on National Dolphin Day. Dolphins are cetacean mammals that are related to whales and porpoises. Ranging is size from 4 ft to up to 30 feet; dolphins are among almost forty species. Found worldwide, they prefer the shallower seas of the continental shelves. As carnivores, their diet consists of mostly fish and squid.

Dolphins are very intelligent animals and people often are first introduced to them through marine sea life exhibits and shows around the world. Male dolphins are called bulls, females, cows, while a young dolphin is a calf. Dolphins that travel together do so in a pod.
